Sahih al-Bukhari 3654

It is related that Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, gave a khutba and said, 'Allah gave one of His slaves a choice between this world and what is with Allah. That slave chose what is with Allah.'" He said, "Abu Bakr wept, and we were astonished by his weeping at the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, reporting that a slave had been given a choice. However, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was the slave referred to and Abu Bakr knew more than we did. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Abu Bakr has been, of all people, the most generous to me both with regard to his company and his property. If I were to have made a close friend of any of my community other than my Lord, I would have taken Abu Bakr, but we have the brotherhood and love of Islam. Let there not remain any private doorways into the mosque except that of Abu Bakr.'"
