Sahih al-Bukhari 4000

It is related from 'A'isha, the wife of the Prophet, that Abu Hudhayfa, who was one of those who had been present at Badr with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, adopted Salim as his son and married him to his niece, Hind bint al-Walid ibn 'Uqba. Salim was the client of a woman of the Ansar. This was as the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had adopted Zayd. In the Jahiliyya, when a man adopted someone as his son, the people would call him by his adoptive father's name and he would inherit from him, until Allah Almighty sent down, 'Call them after their fathers.' (33:5) Sahla went to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace,'" and the hadith is mentioned. (see 4800)
