Sahih al-Bukhari 7192

Malik reported from Abu Layla ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Abdu'r-Rahman that Sahl ibn Hathma and some of the important men of his tribe reported to him that 'Abdullah ibn Sahl and Muhayyisa went to Khaybar on account of of poverty and constriction. Muhayyisa was informed that 'Abdullah had been murdered and thrown into a canal or spring. He went to the Jews and said, "By Allah, you have killed him!" They answered, "By Allah, we have not killed him!" Then he went to his people and told them about it. He and his brother, Huwayyisa, who was older than him, and 'Abdu'r-Rahman ibn Sahl went [to the Prophet.] The one who had been at Khaybar began to speak and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The eldest first, the eldest," meaning in age. So Huwayyisa spoke and then Muhayyisa spoke. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Either they pay the blood money of your companion or war is announced against them." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, wrote to them and they wrote back, "We did not kill him." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, asked Huwayyisa, Muhayyisa and 'Abdu'r-Rahman, "Will you swear oaths and thereby be entitled to take the blood money of your companion?" "No," they replied. He said, "Then should the Jews swear oaths for you?" They said, "They are not Muslims." So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, himself paid the blood money of a hundred camels. Sahl said, "When they were brought into the house, one of the camels kicked me."
