Sahih Bukhari 2 — Narrated Aisha

Narrated 'Aisha: (the mother of the faithful believers) Al-Harith bin Hisham asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ", O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! How is the Divine Revelation revealed to you?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "Sometimes it is (revealed) like the ringing of a bell; this form of Revelation is the hardest of all, and then this state passes off after I have grasped what is revealed. Sometimes the Angel comes in the form of a man and talks to me, and I grasp whatever he says."
'Aisha added: Verily, I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) being inspired divinely on a very cold day and noticed the sweat dropping from his forehead (as the Revelation was over).

'A'isha, Umm al-Mu'minin, may Allah be pleased with her, said that al-Harith ibn Hisham asked the Messenger of Allah, "Messenger of Allah! How does the revelation come to you?" The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Sometimes it comes to me like the ringing of a bell - and this is the hardest on me - which then leaves me after I have fully understood and retained what was said. Sometimes the angel comes to me in the form of a man and speaks to me and I retain what he says."
'A'isha, may Allah be pleased with her, said, "I saw him when the revelation was descending on him on a very cold day and when it left him his brow was dripping with perspiration."

‘Abd Allah ibn Yusuf related to us, saying: Malik told us, on the authority of Hisham ibn ‘Urwah, on the authority of his father, on the authority of ‘A’ishah, Mother of the Faithful: Al-Harith ibn Hisham asked the Apostle of God and said:
“O Apostle of God, how doth the revelation come unto thee?” And the Apostle of God said: “Sometimes it cometh unto me like the ringing of a bell, and that is most hard on me; then it leaveth me, and indeed I retain in my memory what it said. And sometimes the angel assumeth the likeness of a man for me and speaketh unto me, and I retain in my memory what he saith.”
‘A’ishah said: And, verily, I saw him whilst the revelation descended upon him on a day severe with cold; then it left him, and, behold, his brow was streaming with sweat.
