Sahih al-Bukhari 3813

It is related that Qays ibn 'Ubad said, "I was sitting in the mosque of Madina when a man with the mark of humility of his face entered. They said, 'This is a man who is one of the people of the Garden.' He prayed two quick rak'ats and then went out. I followed him and I said, 'When you entered the mosque, they said, "This is a man who is one of the people of the Garden."' He said, 'By Allah, no one should say what he does not know! I will relate to you why that is so. I had a dream in the time of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and I recounted it to him. I dreamt that I was in a meadow,' and he mentioned its vast expanse and greeness. 'In the middle of it was a iron pillar whose bottom was in the earth and whose top was in the heaven and at the top of it was a round handle. I was told, "Climb it." I said, "I cannot!" Then a servant came and lifted up my garment from behind and I climbed until I reached the top of it and took hold of the handle. I was told, "Hold fast!" I woke up and it was in my hand. I recounted it to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he said, "That meadow is Islam and that pillar is the pillar of Islam. That handle is the 'firmest handle'. You will remain in Islam until you die."' That man was 'Abdullah ibn Salam." It is related from Qays ibn 'Ubad that Ibn Salam said, "wasîf" instead of "minsaf".

‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad related to me: Azhar as-Samman related to us, on the authority of Ibn ‘Awn, on the authority of Muhammad, On the authority of Qays ibn ‘Ubad, who said: I was sitting in the masque of Madinah, when there entered a man who bore the mark of humility on his face. And [the people] said: This man is of the people of Paradise!—He prayed two short rak‘ahs and left thereafter. I went after him and said: Behold, when thou camest into the mosque [the people] said, This man is of the people of Paradise.—He said: By Allah! None should say what he doth not know [for certain] I shall [now] tell thee why [they say] this. I saw a dream in the Prophet’s time and told it to him. I seemed to be in a garden (—he described its expanse and its verdure); in the midst of it there stood an iron pillar, its base in the earth and its summit in the sky: and upon its summit there was a hand-hold. And I was told: Climb up this [pillar]!—I answered: I am unable to do it.—Thereupon a helper came unto me and lifted my garments from behind: and so I climbed up and reached the summit [of the pillar] and grasped the hand-hold. Thereupon I was told: Hold fast!— And, verily, I was grasping it until I awoke. [Later] I narrated this [dream] to the Prophet, and he said: That garden [represented] Islam; that pillar, the pillar of Islam; and that hand-hold, faith. Thus, thou shalt remain a Muslim until thy death. And that man was ‘Abd Allah ibn Salam. And khalifah told me: Mu‘adh related to us: Ibn ‘Awn related to us, on the authority of Muhammad: Qays ibn ‘Ubad related to us, on the authority of [‘Abd Allah] ibn Salam, who said wasif instead of minsaf.
