Narrated Abu Musa:The news of the migration of the Prophet (from Mecca to Medina) reached us while we were in Yemen. So we set out as emigrants towards him. We were (three) I and my two brothers. I was the youngest of them, and one of the two was Abu Burda, and the other, Abu Ruhm, and our total number was either 53 or 52 men from my people. We got on board a boat and our boat took us to Negus in Ethiopia. There we met Ja`far bin Abi Talib and stayed with him. Then we all came (to Medina) and met the Prophet (ﷺ) at the time of the conquest of Khaibar. Some of the people used to say to us, namely the people of the ship, "We have migrated before you." Asma' bint 'Umais who was one of those who had come with us, came as a visitor to Hafsa, the wife the Prophet (ﷺ) . She had migrated along with those other Muslims who migrated to Negus. `Umar came to Hafsa while Asma' bint 'Umais was with her. `Umar, on seeing Asma,' said, "Who is this?" She said, "Asma' bint 'Umais," `Umar said, "Is she the Ethiopian? Is she the sea-faring lady?" Asma' replied, "Yes." `Umar said, "We have migrated before you (people of the boat), so we have got more right than you over Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) " On that Asma' became angry and said, "No, by Allah, while you were with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) who was feeding the hungry ones amongst you, and advised the ignorant ones amongst you, we were in the far-off hated land of Ethiopia, and all that was for the sake of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . By Allah, I will neither eat any food nor drink anything till I inform Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) of all that you have said. There we were harmed and frightened. I will mention this to the Prophet (ﷺ) and will not tell a lie or curtail your saying or add something to it."

It is related that Abu Musa said, "The fact that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had departed reached us while we were in the Yemen. So we set out to emigrate to him - me and two of my brothers, and I was the youngest of them. One of them was Abu Burda and the other was Abu Ruhm. (He said either, "We were some," or "We were fifty-three or fifty-two) men of our people. We embarked on a boat and out boat took us to the Negus in Abyssinia. We found Ja'far ibn Abi Talib. We stayed with him until we all went and found the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when he had conquered Khaybar. "Some of the people used to say to us, i.e. the people of the ship, 'We emigrated before you. Asma' bint 'Umays, who was one of those who arrived with us, visited Hafsa, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. She had emigrated to the Negus with those who emigrated. 'Umar came in to Hafsa while Asma' was with her." He said, "When 'Umar saw Asma', he asked, 'Who is this?' She said, "Asma' bint 'Umays.' 'Umar asked, 'Is this the Abyssinian? The seafarer?' Asma' replied, 'Yes.' He said, 'We emigrated before you so we are more entitled to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, than you.' She got angry and said, 'No, by Allah! While you were with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who was feeding those of you who were hungry and admonishing those of you who were ignorant, we were in an abode - or a land - which was far and hated the deen, in Abyssinia, and that was for the sake of Allah and His Messenger. By Allah, I will not eat any food nor drink anything until I mention what you have said to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace! We were being abused and made to fear. I will mention that to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and I will ask him! By Allah, I will not lie nor deviate nor add anything to it!' When the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came, she said, 'O Prophet of Allah! 'Umar said such-and-such.' He asked, 'And what did you say to him?' She replied, 'I said such-and-such to him.' He said, 'He is not more entitled to me than you. He and his companions have one emigration while you - the people of the ship - have two emigrations.' She said, 'I saw Abu Musa and the people of ship coming to me in successive groups to ask me about this hadith, and there was nothing in the world which delighted them more or what was more important to them that what the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to them.'" Abu Burda said, "Asma' said, 'I saw Abu Musa when he was asking me to repeat this hadith.'"
